General Call for Submissions
Ruminate Magazine holds a rolling open call for submissions throughout the year. We accept poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art in all media. There is no theme for submission – we want to select the best work for publication in Ruminate. Once pieces are selected, editors craft the issues with an eye towards the common themes in the work General submissions are always free, but we would love it if you participated in our annual writing contests too – they’re what keep the magazine running!
Ruminate Magazine invites you to enter our annual poetry, short story, nonfiction, and visual art prizes–the Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize, the William Van Dyke Short Story Prize, the VanderMey Nonfiction Prize, and the Ruminate Visual Art Prizes. Contest prizes are cash awards of $1500 and publication in the magazine. Contests are only open for a limited period of time, so please check the listing below to see if your work is eligible for submission.
After many requests from our submitters, Ruminate Magazine is pleased to offer the opportunity to work with the Ruminate staff and receive personalized critique and feedback on your writing, which can be a piece or pieces previously submitted to Ruminate or new work. Registration is open year-round.
