ST. PETE'S FLY SHOP will host a casting demonstration & workshop for those who also want to explore the kinetic connections between art and fishing or just want to mix up the traditional art reception environment. They have also donated 1 Intro to Fly Fishing class (a value of $100), which attendees will have a chance to win.

CASEY UNDERWOOD, artist-in-residence: Casey's work will explore the intersections between commercial fly fishing and contemporary art. As he embarks upon a month-long fly fishing trip (see map below), he will make art along the way, responding to drastically different environments, from the drought-stricken rivers of California to the well-watered Poudre river. Check out his website for more information on his recent work.

JUDITH DEEM DUPREE, writer-in-residence: Judith Deem Dupree is the author of Going Home, I Sing America, and Living With What Remains. She has established an arts fellowship in the San Diego area and is currently completing a manuscript based on a summer's "residency" at an old SoCA ranch--a rich encounter with nature, history, and self that became a became a spiritual pilgrimage. Judith is completing her fourth book during her residency here, and she will be reading an excerpt from it at our reception on Sept 27th. This will be Judith's first non-poetry book, and the working title is Sky Mesa Journal. Sky Mesa is a cathartic experience of personal release and discovery--bringing to focus our spiritual response to and responsibilities toward the environment. Praise for Judith's last poetry book, Living with What Remains:  "A lovely, moving, wise collection….Dupree walks with eyes wide open, offering both praise and consolation for all ‘that remains.’" --Scott Cairns
