Ruminate Magazine and The Waking

About

Ruminate was a reader-supported literary magazine that invited slowing down and paying attention. Founded by Brianna Van Dyke of Fort Collins, CO in 2006, the quarterly print publication featured short stories, essays, poetry, art, and readers’ notes. In addition to general submissions, the magazine also hosted four annual contests. After a sixteen-year run under four different editors-in-chief, Ruminate officially ceased production. The final issue, 63/64: Regeneration, was released in winter 2022.

The Waking was Ruminate’s online arm, with a focus on short-form prose and image-text hybrid work. In its early days, the site also featured contemplative blog posts and book reviews.
